Possum Magic - Sharon's quilt

Our Possum Magic round robin is coming to an end and the quilts are being returned to their original owners. You can see progress photos of them all on the Possum Magic tab at the top of this page.

Sharon's quilt on my spare bed

The final quilt that I worked on was Sharon's. Each of the quilts was different to the others, but some how this one seemed even more different.  For a start there was a lot of white in it, which is very different to what I'm used to. It was also filled with many tiny pieces of fabric. I'm not one for taking the easy way out, but I've also never used that many tiny pieces in a quilt.

Tiny hexagons added by Jane

Alice and I decided to share the last border because the quilt was getting quite large.  Sharon had made her original centre back in June 2014, and then 5 other people had already added their borders before the quilt got to us. We just had to put on a final border.  This is what it looked like when we received it from Rebecca (One Wee Bird).

We added a crazy mosaic type border which complemented the rest of the quilt nicely.  There was plenty of white in our border, but some colour too.

The quilt is now back in northern Queensland, Australia with Sharon, and she's thinking about hand quilting it one day when the temperatures get cooler - she could be waiting some time!

I'll be writing more Possum Magic posts over the next few days.

Wow, Sharon's quilt finished out a an amazingly large size; I think you and Alice were wise to work together on the final border.

I'm so glad I got to see this one finished in real life too ... you ladies did a wonderful job on that final border. I also liked the way you edge stitched the final border to stop fraying and stretching of the fabric. Carla pointed it out to me. Such a good idea, especially as Sharon may hand quilt it, it will be handled a lot and you've ensured that the edges will be protected - nice, thoughtful touch.

A fabulous quilt. Such a lot of work in every bit of it. Having lots of white makes it look so crisp, the other colours stand out beautifully. An heirloom.

Indeed lots of small pieces, but the end result is stunning. I love the last border you and your friend worked on. I'm amazed how much work everybody put into this round robin. I'm gong to have a peek at the other quilts now.

I love that quilt!! I love how different each section is but yet it all blends together just right - I wouldn't mind having that quilt top for myself and I might just have to pin it to my file of quilts to make one day.

Truly a masterpiece deserving of hand quilting. How large is it with the drop I'm guessing close to king sized?

Looking forward to more of the finished quilts. Thanks to you all.

What a beautiful and interesting quilt. Sharon should have many hours of enjoyment when she sees it. It's amazing how so many different quilters can add to a quilt and make it look so wonderful. Each border carries the personality of the maker but doesn't distract from the overall quilt.

The result of this quilt is truly awesome. You certainly had a very talented group of ladies and they all put so much thought and work into each round. Being the last does make for a big effort to get the border onto such a big quilt but you both did a great job.

How pretty it turned out. What imagination everyone had.
It came together beautifully. I don't think I've ever seen a Round Robin like this. I know I've never seen one completed. Thanks for sharing.

Hi there! This is a beautiful quilt and I am wondering if I could have permission to repost a picture of this quilt on my blog? Linking back to your blog and sending people your way of course! I am just doing a round up of different quilt guild swap ideas that I'd like to share.

Please let me know if that would be okay with you.

Thank you,
