Something new!

Yes, finally I have something new to report.

I've made a start on a pattern from Willyne Hammerstein's Millefiori Quilts Book 4.

The pattern is called "Bont en Blauw", which translates to English as "Black and Blue" - which is a bit unfortunate because that brings up disturbing images in most peoples minds.  So I'm going to come up with a different name for my happy little quilt.

There are only 2 shapes in the pattern, but there are lots of opportunities to play with colour and pattern.

When I want to plan a quilt, I just use a pen and maths paper.  I can't be bothered learning another software package like EQ8 - my brain is full.

I had a piece of Cotton + Steel fabric that I knew would be good for fussy cutting, so I cut as many pieces as I could from it.  The quilt will be small because I only had about a metre of the feature fabric.

I'm hand piecing this quilt and I'm enjoying working with different shapes and colours.  I love seeing it grow.

Now it's time for the Peacock Party.  What have you been up to this week? Feel free to link up a recent blog post below.

Your new quilt is looking so pretty! I agree, the pattern needs a new name. Happy stitching!

I so admire your hand piecing skill! I just don't have the patience for such slow stitching. Hey, if it works for you, keep doing what you're doing!

This is so beautiful! Do you enjoy the hand piecing or epp more? I haven't started my Pass quilt but fell in love with all your beautiful colors. I bought the templates and want to hand piece .

You have inspired me to finish my La Pass during this latest lockdown(UK). Your hand piecing is gorgeous.

Beautiful use of this fabric, Wendy! I love how you've used different parts of the print to create different designs in your quilt from the repeats. Is this regular hand piecing or EPP? And how small are the patches?

This looks lovely! The blue and white makes me think of pottery designs, and I love the brightness that the red brings to it.

Beautiful quilt.
I am Dutch.
The translation of bont en blauw is not black and blue. The Dutch word for black is zwart.
Bont is not to translate to a colour.
Bont is just more colours together.
You can see it in the quilt, blue and more different colours.
Greetings Frea

Your new quilt is beautiful Wendy. You are amazing with your fussy cutting and piecing. When I see that metre of fabric, I wouldn't see those lovely blocks that you've created out of it. You are amazing and I look forward to seeing your quilt grow.

Those are fun designs - looks like the possibilities are endless!

I tend to agree with you about quilt design software - a paper and pencil has taken me this far, and unless I ever plan on going into the business of making quilts I suspect that it will remain the design tool of choice. Love the way that you have fussy cut your blue & white for this quilt.

This is going to be a beautiful quilt Wendy. But oh so much work to do. Good luck with the rest of the blocks.

Thank you for giving me the words I need when asked again and again to do classes that I don't want to do. I am content with what I do - and my brain is full,

I love both the quilt you are working from as a model and your color choices for the one you are actually making.
