Goodbye September, hello October.
September was tough. I know I have so much to be grateful for, but like many New Zealanders and Australians, I found September very tough. While much of the world is moving on from COVID, we've been plunged back in some of the strictest lockdowns.
The rules have eased slightly here in Wellington, but my parents and son in Auckland are still doing it tough in Level 3. I'd love to go and see them, but we can't get in to Auckland and they can't get out at the moment.
I finally ventured out to some local quilt shops this week. I haven't been to a quilt shop since the beginning of June. Can you believe that??
And I'm looking forward to some exhibitions. Here's what's coming up:
I'm hoping to get to all three of these exhibitions.
Now it's time for the Peacock Party. What have you been up to this week? Feel free to link up a recent blog post below.
The US may be moving on from covid but it's still alive, active and ongoing. People just seem to be ignoring it and the vaccination misinformation is very frustrating! The state I live in has the lowest vaccination rate in the US. I hope you are able to see your parents and son soon and that you're able to attend the quilt shows. Happy stitching!
ReplyDeleteI hope the restrictions are soon lifted for your family and that you can get to these exhibitions. Here most of the restrictions have been lifted, but there is a lot of discussion as we now have to prove we have been vaccinated or recently tested. Many people who object to vaccination are claiming they are being discriminated against. Fortunately the court ruled yesterday that being denied admittance if you cannot prove that you are not infected is justifiable.
ReplyDeleteI think New Zealand has handled the spreading of Covid so much better than the US has like Gretchen says the way people are dealing with it here is not well at all and so many only thinking of themselves and not others. My husband's half sister died last month of it and she was not vaccinated she most likely would still be alive if she hadn't of been so stubborn as to refuse it - she was only 62 - my 73 year old sister on the other hand got it 2 months ago and had the vaccine six months ago and she is alive and recovery and never went to the hospital.
ReplyDeleteWhat size thread do you use for your quilting? it is all so pretty, I know you do big stitch I mainly use number 12 but I hand quilt in regular smaller stitches but not as tiny as some do - kind of half way in between I guess.
That's a gorgeous palette of fabrics and threads at the top of your post! I hope the restrictions lift and you get to go to all three quilt shows.
ReplyDeleteDefinitely harder than the first lock down, hasn’t it been? I do feel for your folks, and all those in Auckland, it’s been a long slog for them. Personally I think I have quilted more this time, definitely exercised less, and eaten more scones. Take care and enjoy our Celebration of Quilts in Palmerston North.
ReplyDeleteA wonderful collection of thread and colors. I hope the quilt festivals are a go as planned. Went to quilt show a couple of weeks ago and it was only lightly attended. Don't know if it was a lack of publicity or because of other things (like wildfires and smoke) that kept the attendance down. It was nice not to feel crowded. Hoping you get to see your family soon.
ReplyDeleteSo sorry to know about your continued pandemic levels of lockdown. You make me appreciate the freedom we're enjoying again (here in Florida). Just this morning hubs and I were talking about how life is steadily returning to normal as people are now getting boosters, and fewer people wear masks. I'm glad you're able to get to do some online shopping. I do too, but that's because we don't have a decent local quilt shop to GO to! Are those all size 8 perle cottons in your bins? I want those!
ReplyDeleteTimes sure have been challenging....I can see how we will move forward in covid....... What thread do you use there.... That is for quilting?
ReplyDeleteI sure hope you get to those quilt events.....
You have a great selection of fabrics there.
ReplyDeleteWill you please tell me about the grey with black, white and yellow spots and where you purchased it? I looked online at Wellington quilt shops but haven't seen it. It will perfectly complement a project I have planned.
It was a pleasure to meet with friends in Hamilton on Friday to visit a quilt shop. Now I wonder if we will get to any shows this year.
I'm thankful to have projects to keep me well occupied.
