Shuttles quilt (and the Peacock Party)

Another finish!!! They're coming thick and fast at the moment.

Yes, I've finished my Shuttles quilt from Kaffe Fassett's Quilts in Morocco book.

It is square - it was just a bit breezy when I took the photo

I love all the crazy colour in this quilt.

I really went to town when I decided to use Brandon Mably's Jumble in yellow for the borders:

And Philip Jacobs' Feathers in gold on the back:

Never mind the decision to hand quilt it with bright yellow Aurifil thread!

And the final touch was using Jupiter in red for the binding.  I cut it length-ways so the binding would appear striped.

This quilt has wool batting so it's nice and light.  I could use it as a lap quilt in the evenings, or put it on a single bed.

Here's the Shuttles quilt on the cover of Quilts in Morocco.  I chose this pattern because it has large blocks that would show off some of my many Kaffe Fassett fat quarters.  I could easily make another quilt from this pattern tomorrow in an entirely different Kaffe colourway.

My finished quilt is:
61" x 68.5"
155cm x 174cm

I cut my blocks at 7.5" x 4".

So now it's your time to share what you've been working on.  Feel free to link up a recent blog post below.

  1. That’s a very beautiful finish, Wendy!! Love the yellow quilting and the bold border and binding!
Up to now I have only used KF and friends fabrics to appliqué with, mayb I should try a plain pieced quilt one day!

  2. Oh Wendy, I so love this. Really want to create one but they are going to put me (probably my kids!) in a loony bin if I start 1 more thing. Wrote it in my book of To Do's...for now. Loving the background & border very much. Susan in Boston

  4. Beautiful, really beautiful! Well done Wendy! I much prefer your restful grey background to the original mixed little triangles, and your yellow quilting is amazing!

  5. You've been so prolific lately! Good on you! I love that you manage to hand quilt your quilts too. It's such a nice feature on an already beautiful quilt design. I'm happy for you to have enjoyed your time at the Symposium too. I don't think many of us have heard of the Twins who entertained you, but it looked like a good time on your IG feed. Now enjoy working on your dodecagons, as I know you will.

  7. Beautiful! Shows off those magnificent prints so well, and your border choices really shine. I love that Jupiter print you chose for the binding - so versatile it works with everything, including non-Kaffe projects.

  9. Another inspiring quilt Wendy. The hand quilting is wonderful and I love how the Jupiter looks for binding. I'll have to remember that although I don't know if I have enough yardage for binding. Hmmm . . . maybe I need to buy more. Always looking for a reason to get more fabric.

  16. I love this Wendy, I think it would be one of my favourite quilts you have made.

Also I've just issued that book from the library - so tempted, but I have no where near enough KF fabrics for this. One day ...
