The pattern for the Sew Together bag is by Sew Demented, and is available for purchase on Craftsy. If you do want to make a bag like this, I highly recommend the tutorial by Quilt Barn on her blog. There are many extra little steps not mentioned in the pattern, but the tutorial explains them all.
I chose some lovely Tula Pink fabrics for this bag, and mixed them with some other pinks from my stash.
I've got a second bag cut out already, and it will be all Kaffe Fassett fabrics. I'll tackle it another day. My first bag took me about 10 hours, but I did hand sew my bindings down. I'm hoping that the second one will be slightly quicker.
I didn't think I really needed one of these bags, but now I'm on holiday in Auckland I'm finding it really useful for storing my hand quilting supplies.
I can think of lots of uses for one of these it looks so complicated you have certainly made good job of it, great fabrics and the Kaffe fabrics will look so good when made up too, I am sure it will be quicker this time
ReplyDeleteIt's gorgeous Wendy! Your fabric selection is perfect! I like to hand sew my binding too. It gives a neater finish, I think. I also like making Elizabeth's (@occasional piece) mini version which has one less zipper compartment!
ReplyDeleteI have this pattern, too, but have been reluctant to start. A young IG friend started making these bags and had a giveaway of at least a dozen. She later sent me one, and is now making and selling all kinds of bags on IG. I'm afraid that there must be something addictive about these bags. Nobody seems to be able to make "just one." That said, I love your bag(s). Your fabric choices are wonderful, as usual. I wish you could bottle your talent for choosing luscious fabrics and send it to me. That is something I really struggle with, but you seem to do it so easily! Love those bags.
ReplyDeleteLovely fabric choices Wendy. I made a similar one by another designer and am amazed with wverthing I can put in it.
ReplyDeleteI have plans to make several more to gift and keep. I also have a baby version that I use for hand and English paper piecing.
Congrats on the first one I'm sure you will make even more!
Hi Wendy! Can't wait to see your lovely KFC Sew Together bag! They are so handy to travel with.
ReplyDeleteI love your bag, so vibrant and very you.. I always hand sew the bindings down too.
ReplyDeleteOh so jealous, I have wanted to make one of those bags for a while now. I never get to it and your fabric choices are wonderful!
ReplyDeleteLove that blue Kaffe fabric. It's very la Passa! Perfect for you, Wendy.
ReplyDeleteI hand sew the bindings too. It gives a much neater finish.
ReplyDeleteThe bags come together reasonably quickly once the outside is made. That is where I often spend my time. Did you find the same thing? I made two last weekend, but the outsides were prepared earlier.
I recommend Crazy Mom Quilt's zipper technique, and I have made up a 'better' way of doing the long zipper ends. I must take photos next time.
Your quilt is looking great in the hoop. Hopefully you are enjoying the quilting as much as the piecing. Looking forward to the final reveal.
ReplyDeleteLovely pouch ! You did a great job.
ReplyDeleteThose bags are the best! I love yours. Last year I think I made about ten of them. It gets easier over time, but I sure can’t do without that great tutorial. :-)
ReplyDeleteI knew they were fiddly to make but 10 hours surprises me - congrats! Beautiful and super useful too! its on my quilty wish list too as I think the fabric selection for it will be so much fun.
