Nearly 12 months ago I met some lovely Australian and New Zealand bloggers through a new bloggers group, hosted by
Beth at Plum and June blog. Over 100 bloggers from all over the world joined that new bloggers group, and we all benefited from advice about how to make our blogs better. There was a lot of talk about round robins in the group, and a fair bit of resistance from those in North America to post to those of us "down under". So, some of us in Australia and New Zealand got together online, and formed our very own round robin group called Possum Magic. A few months later a USA / Canada group started up called Round Trip Quilts, and their round robin is progressing too.
One of our members, Jo from Riddle and Whimsy, had been in a round robin before, so she put forward some guidelines and we modified them to meet our needs. We each made a centre block using whatever design we liked. We then sent that block off to the next person on the list on the agreed date. The quilts are now travelling round in a circle and we will each receive our own quilt back at the end in July 2015.
You can see more photos and read the back stories of each step on the Possum Magic tab, just under my header, but here's some recent photos of each of the quilts:
|
Alice's quilt - Blossom quilts |
|
Carla's quilt - Granny Maud's Girl |
|
Jane's quilt - Where Jane Creates |
|
Jo's quilt - Riddle and Whimsy |
|
Rebecca's quilt - One Wee Bird |
|
Serena's quilt - Sew Giving |
|
My quilt - Wendy's Quilts and More |
|
Sharon's quilt - Motherdragon's Musings |
Aren't they all fabulous? There's still one or two more borders to be added to most of these so they aren't finished yet. I'll keep you posted on progress.
It's funny as I scroll through these photos. I can see my input into each of them, except this very last one which I'm due to receive next week. They bring back great memories, and make me think of the friendships that have developed during the course of this round robin.
Each quilt is so unique and I love that you can see your contribution to (almost) each quilt.
ReplyDeleteSuch beautiful quilts and also wonderful workmanship. I've never done a round robin but you've all done a stellar job. I wonder how you all feel about your own quilt; did it turn out the way you envisaged it or did they turn out quite differently?
ReplyDeleteWow, every one of those quilts are lovely, love how people have worked hard to keep to the theme of the original block, well done everyone!

These all look so fabulous and it is such a great idea to do this in a group. I think I would be scared stiff to add a border to someone else's quilt.
ReplyDeleteAren't we a clever bunch! Two of them were in the same room today, as Serena and I swapped notes over a cuppa.
ReplyDeletesome of those are just so beautiful and turned out very well. I have heard of round robin quilts but have not participated in them, I would be afraid of messing up someone else's work. The postage in the US went so high suddenly a couple years ago that no one wants to pay the high prices, something like sending a box of fabric and quilt top around the world to the next person could cost way more than some can afford.
ReplyDeleteWatching these quilts progress through this process has been so much fun! And educational - you all have been so generous with sharing your thought process with each border. They are all absolutely fabulous and I can't wait to see them finished. . . but then I am going to be sad because there won't be anymore updates. . . When is the next one starting??? :D
ReplyDeleteIt's been such a wonderful experience, learning, creating and seeing these babies grow :)
ReplyDeleteWendy, What lovely quilts. I think each quilter will be so pleased to receive their quilt back. One question, did the chosen fabric circulate with the quilt or did you each go to your stash to find fabric that would work?
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea Wendy. All the quilts look fabulous!
ReplyDeleteWhat beautiful Inspiration! They are all so.... wonderfully unique.
ReplyDeleteHi Bella Quilts - I can't see your email address so will reply here. We each used our own fabric stash to add to the quilts, though some people sent scraps along which we could incorporate if we liked. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteThis looks so interesting and sometimes I think a round robin can be so daunting to add onto someone else's work. I have never experienced taking part in one so it will be interesting to see them finished. A nice way to meet others in an unusual way by not knowing them personally.
