Gingerbread Bakery by The Victoria Sampler |
I finished the stitching some months ago, and initially planned to have them all sewn up by the end of June. However, now it's looking more likely it will be August.
Mounting the pieces onto padded cardboard is actually quite difficult and that's why I've been putting it off. I use lots of pins to get the edges lined up nicely with the cardboard. Yes, I get the occasional pin prick which isn't nice, but it's the best way to get the edges straight.
I then use double sided sellotape to stick the edges down. Previously I've used glue, but it was very messy so I'm trying tape this time.
I've got two buildings to assemble this year - the Bakery and the Candy Cane Cottage.

Once these buildings are finished they will join my Gingerbread House and Gingerbread Church.
The roof of the house lifts off and you can store things inside because it's lined. The Bakery and the Candy Cane Cottage aren't lined, so they won't take quite as long to finish.

Wendy, these are just absolutely awesome! What a wonderful village it will be. So much work! But what a treasured heirloom it will be for your family. You are doing a beautiful finish job!
ReplyDeletewhat a delightful project you are working on, so detailed, wonderful
ReplyDeleteWhat will you store inside? Not anything sticky like gingerbread that might gum up your lovely sewing, I hope!
ReplyDeleteWow, they look so intricate and a lot of work gone into them. A lovely thing to have made!
ReplyDeleteGosh, you set yourself a huge challenge. This is a awesome piece of work that you must be so pleased with. It's always very rewarding when you finally get a project finished, especially one that is so detailed and no doubt required tons of patience!
ReplyDeleteI love those ginger bread houses of yours and I admire your patience making them.
ReplyDeleteWendy I really love your Gingerbread Village. Is the Candy Cane Cottage your final piece in this series? I see on the Victoria Sampler website a Gingerbread Christmas Tree Atui. (I had to google that word ). So inspiring. I wish I could make these. I absolutely love gingerbread themed Christmas things.
ReplyDeleteHi Mary Jane. I don't think the Candy Cane Cottage will be my final piece. Thea of The Victoria Sampler has said that she intends to release a new building each year for a few more years yet. She's currently working on a Gingerbread Needlework shop, so that might be a Christmas present for me this year.
DeleteWendy, your gingerbread village is absolutely gorgeous, I would love to have one. I just showed my daughter your photos and she said it was very cool.
ReplyDeleteThank you Linda. It's just the kind of thing you could do because I know you're very good with details. I love all the special beads that come in the accessories packs.
DeleteWendy these are amazing and you are doing such a great job with all that work. Well worth it.
ReplyDeleteTHey are adorable xx
ReplyDeleteI love the combinations of beads and threads!
