Either way, I made a Christmas table runner this week. I find that the pre-Christmas period gets too rushed for sewing, so I like to make Christmas things in the weeks following Christmas. I have much more time and energy in early January.
I love Christmas fabrics when I see them in the shops in August, but I'm not feeling the Christmas spirit in August, so I put them away. Then I get busy and Christmas comes and goes and I still haven't make anything. This year I decided to start in the week between Christmas and New Year, and low and behold, I've made a table runner.
I couldn't find a pattern that was simple but effective, so I made up my own pattern and customised the design to fit my table perfectly. I'd purchased the Bloc Loc Half Rectangle Triangle rulers some months ago, but not used them yet. They provided the ideal solution for my table runner design. These rulers weren't cheap, but they worked brilliantly, and include directions for cutting any size half rectangle triangle up to 8.5" tall.
Now it's time for the Peacock Party - a chance to show off what you've made lately. Or maybe you've already written your quilting plans for 2019 and would like to share? Feel free to link up and let others know what you've been up to (even holiday posts are fine because we're all on Summer holidays down in this part of the world).
PS - I'm planning a giveaway during the last week of January. I've been blogging for 5 years now, so I'm planning a celebration. Stay tuned!

So glad Ifound your blog Wendy. I love your colourful quilts and seeing your progress with your projects. You've inspired me to try hand quilting for 2019-thank you
ReplyDeleteSuch a fun and colorful table runner! I love Bloc Loc rulers too and wish they weren't so pricey!! Congrats on the 5 year blogaversary!!! Fantastic!!!
ReplyDeleteGood idea to do some sewing with Christmas fabric in January. Last year I challenged myself to use my holiday fabrics and I think challenge needs to roll into 2019 since I didn't get very far.
ReplyDeleteNo Block Loc rulers here yet! I make HRTs using a different ruler...can't remember which just now but I've been making them from 4.5 inch scraps.
Congrats on your blogoversary! And lovely table runner. I think it's definitely an early Christmas 2019 finish, not a late 2018 one.
ReplyDeleteIt's nice that you're into Christmas decorating. After so many years of doing that when our children were young, and still returning home, we moved and used the occasion to purge ourselves of nearly everything. All Christmas-made things were donated to Goodwill, except for a few handmade ornaments that haven't been out of a box for seven years. I don't think I even have any Christmas fabrics in my stash. I suppose that makes me sound Scroogish, but I'm okay with no decorating (no extra work) because we still remember and honor the reason for Christmas. I'm happy for you and your family to be enjoying your creativity for this season.
ReplyDeleteI’m going with “early.” I have made some holiday things after Christmas in the past and found it to be so relaxing. I like the dense patterns in all of the fabric in your runner.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful, festive finish! I'm sure you'll enjoy it for years to come. Thank you for hosting the linkup.
