Happy New Year

Happy New Year everyone.  I know it's snowing in North America, and even parts of the UK, so I thought I'd share a few photos of our Christmas in Wellington, New Zealand, where it's the middle of summer.

Oriental Bay, Wellington 30 December 2017

We had Christmas at home this year for a change. My mum and dad came to our house and we had a quiet Christmas together.  I took these photos when we went for a walk around Oriental Bay.  In some parts of Wellington the houses are built on very steep hillsides., but they have great views.

Oriental Bay, Wellington

I know some people who read my blog have been to Wellington on cruise ships.  You will remember the lovely harbour.

We also went to Ruth Pretty's kitchen shop at Te Horo for a cup of coffee and piece of her amazing Christmas cake. The garden room is an old hot house converted into a sitting area.

I loved these flowers.  Are they Artichoke Thistles? I'm not sure, but they were very tall.

Happy New Year everyone.

Such a gorgeous place! Do you think you could adopt me? I would love to live there, lol! Yes those flowers are some type of thistle. They are huge. When I lived in Washington state, we had small wild thistles growing.

I have to mention what a great photo of you with the Symposium quilt. I really enjoyed looking through the photos of your embroidery and quilting...so many beautiful things made by your hands. Seeing the sunny photos seem almost surreal to me as we are already deep into a very cold and snowy winter. Happy Stitching in 2018 too!

Thanks so much for the beautiful pictures of Wellington. The old homes are so charming. Those plants are cardoons or milk thistle. Apparently the stalks are edible and even pickled (I'm a Google nut). Happy New Year to you and your family.

Lovely photos Wendy. I have a soft spot for Wellington...I was born there, and I remember my father wouldn't hear a bad word said about Wellington!

Happy New Year!
We live in a spot that is not dissimilar - near the water (river, in my case) with houses on a slope around the bay. We are a few streets away from the water, but it is lovely to walk along the river most days with the dog. (Not yesterday - too hot!)

Twenty years ago my friend had ‘Illy on Blair’, a coffee shop in Blair St off Courtenay Place. She lived in a converted warehouse in Wakefield Street. We were originally Rotary Exchange students in 1971 (I’m from Tasmania) I love, love, love Wellington.
